GEM Tree Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how GEM World Network ("GEM", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use GEM Tree, including the Android application and related services.
1. Information we may collect
Depending on the features you use, GEM Tree may process the following information:
- Account information: name, email address, authentication identifiers, and sign-in information.
- Profile information: profile photo, gender, birthday, anniversary, city/country, and profile preferences you choose to provide.
- Family information: family name/code, family relationships, member profiles, family-tree links, invitations, join requests, and family roles.
- User content: family moments, photos, captions, comments, chat or group content, notifications, and other content you choose to create or share.
- Technical and security information: identifiers and information needed to authenticate your account, operate cloud sync, prevent abuse, and maintain the service.
2. Google Sign-In and Firebase
GEM Tree uses Google services including Google Sign-In and Firebase for authentication and cloud features. When you choose Google Sign-In, Google provides GEM Tree with authentication information such as your Google account identifier, email address, display name, and an authentication token needed to sign you in.
Firebase services may be used to store and synchronize account, profile, family, media, messaging, notification, and related application data. Google acts as a service provider for these functions under its applicable terms and privacy documentation.
3. How we use information
- create and authenticate GEM Tree accounts;
- build, display, and synchronize family trees and relationships;
- support family invitations, join requests, owner/admin functions, and member management;
- provide family moments, photos, chat, notifications, and other app features;
- maintain security, diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and improve reliability;
- respond to support, privacy, and account requests.
4. Photos, media, and family content
Photos and other media are uploaded only when you choose to use a feature that requires them, such as a profile photo or family moment. Family content is intended to be shared within the relevant GEM Tree family or with the audience selected by the feature.
5. Local device data and biometric sign-in
GEM Tree may store certain preferences and sign-in convenience information locally on your device. If you enable biometric sign-in, Android's biometric system is used to confirm your identity. GEM Tree does not receive or store your fingerprint or face template itself.
6. Sharing of information
We may share information with service providers that are necessary to operate GEM Tree, such as Google/Firebase for authentication, hosting, storage, cloud synchronization, and related infrastructure. We may also disclose information where required by law, to protect users or the service, or in connection with a legitimate security or legal requirement.
GEM Tree is not designed to sell personal information to data brokers or use personal information for third-party advertising.
7. Data security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the service. Data transmitted to supported cloud services is sent over encrypted network connections such as HTTPS/TLS where supported. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
8. Data retention
We retain information for as long as needed to provide GEM Tree, maintain account and family functionality, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and protect the service. Content you delete may remain temporarily in backups or logs where technically necessary or legally required.
9. Account and data deletion
Users may request deletion of their GEM Tree account and associated personal data through the account deletion option provided in the app, where available, or by contacting us at the email address below. We may need to verify your identity before completing a deletion request.
Some information may be retained where required by law, for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or other legitimate compliance purposes. Information belonging to other family members or content they created is not automatically deleted solely because another family member deletes their own account.
10. Children's privacy
GEM Tree is a family-networking service and may contain profiles created by family members for relatives. The service is not intended to encourage children to create accounts independently without appropriate parental or guardian involvement. If we learn that personal information has been provided in violation of applicable child-privacy requirements, we will take appropriate steps to address it.
11. International processing
Cloud service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where applicable, such processing is handled under the provider's contractual and security safeguards.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as GEM Tree changes. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date and may provide additional notice where appropriate.
